Bayonne Lion’s Dark is a female Rhodesian Ridgeback, which has been in our family since summer 2012…
She comes from a “B” litter of breeding station Lion’s Dark. She was born on 28th February 2012 together with her five siblings – four females, two males; both males have bent tail, which makes them nonstandard. Her mother, C’haitali Ann z Valdštejnských lip, lives in a family near to us. However, her father, Chiwambo Baha de Kiungwana, comes from France.
Her height is 66 cm and she weights 36 kg. Her fur is of red wheat colour, with white breast and white spot on both right front and back paw. Part of her face towards the mouth is black, which gives her mature expression.
Bayonne (or Banny, pronounced like a bunny rabbit) is very cuddly. She often comes just to let us scratch her belly or between her ears, where she likes it. She got used to sleeping in my bed very quickly, haha. I don’t mind, because she can curl herself up into a little donut so as not to bother me while I sleep.
She’s also very inteligent and stubborn, when comes to food or sleeping on a sofa (she’s not supposed to sleep on the sofa). She can open, unwrap or reach almost anything in our kitchen, which may have food in it. She knows she’s not supposed to steal our food, but that’s not stopping her from trying, haha.
On the other hand, Bayonne is very protective. Every time she hears someone opening our front gate, she runs barking to look who it is. If it’s someone she knows, she stops and calms down. If not (believe me, that happened as well), she keeps barking so as to scare him away. Sometimes she opens the door for herself and runs to the front gate to protect us from potential evil.
But not only when we’re home she does that. Even when I’m walking her – when she sees something suspicious, she starts to growl quietly to warn me there’s something or someone she doesn’t like.
Apart from these qualities, she’s like any other dog – she loves to chase rabbits and deer, loves to run in a wheat fields and loves to chew on branches (and other things). She’s the best dog ever and we love her with all our hearts. 🙂
